SUSTAINABLE USE OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS

Freshwater ecosystems and their resources are a societal concern reaching across national borders. The sustainable use and protection of aquatic ecosystems require combined efforts resulting from scientific research and resource management.

INNOVATIVE RESEARCH

WasserCluster Lunz is an inter-university center for aquatic ecosystem research dedicated to the advancement and teaching of freshwater ecosystem sciences, at fundamental and applied research levels. WasserCluster Lunz is committed to providing innovative research on structure and function of freshwater ecosystems, and to safeguard the sustainable use of their resources.

IDENTIFY FUTURE PROBLEMS

Ranging from microbial ecology to biogeochemistry, from restoration ecology to aquatic ecosystem management, and from ecotoxicology to aquatic food web research, WasserCluster Lunz has established links with the partner universities to address current problems and identify potential future problems for freshwater ecosystems and their sustainable use.

EDUCATION

Teaching and training is one of the main points in the WasserCluster philosophy. We contribute to educational programs at undergraduate and graduate level of the partner universities and to postgraduate training programs in the field of freshwater ecosystem sciences.
